Clowns Will Eat Me!

I bought one of my sisters this shirt for Christmas. You can find it here.
Can’t Sleep, Clowns Will Eat Me – T-Shirts, License Plate Frames, Stickers and

I found it highly amusing that people had devoted an entire website to the fear of clowns, but then I remembered that scene in Poltergeist. Even though I was the oldest sister (eleven or twelve at the time), I’m pretty sure I made one of the younger ones sleep in my room that night.

We tease people about being afraid of clowns, but according to this article in Psychology Today , it’s natural. (BTW, the current issue isn’t on the website yet.) To children, clowns look like monsters and since adults read facial expressions to understand a person, these made up faces make them suspicious.
I can think of a couple of scary clown movies or books. Stephen King’s It always comes to mind first. Then there was that incredibly awful Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)

Can you name one?

My mother had a life size clown, a very cute one, made for me the year Poltergeist came out.

Like the one in the movie, but red and white only.

Mother had no idea about the movie.

And people wonder why I’m weird…

Clowns scared the smurf out of me when I was a kid…

I was the youngest of five, So I guess when the other kids were old enough to be exposed to men who wore make up and flamboyant colors, I was not…

I wasnt as tall as I am now, so the clowns were huge… So I grew up afraid of clowns… while I’m no longer scared of them, i’m very uncomfortable around them. I find NOTHING cute or funny about them… They’re just weird. I look at them and see a deranged psychopath looking for a victim..

OMG — Killer Klowns!!! My dad worked on that one back in the day and I remember looking at the script and saying, hmmm…this could be a seriously decent “C” movie if they do it right…alas…

And when it comes to scary clowns, you can’t forget Pennywise in “It”!
