...because fiction is our greatest escape from reality...

Drive By

I’m in the zone. I’m submerged. I’m exhilarated.

This is why I do this.

In the middle of revamping my WIP and no, it’s not one of those revision slumps where you never move past the first few chapters. Been there. Done that. No. I have moved beyond. In fact, I wrote ahead and learned a few things about my characters. They walked right off the screen and breathed hot emotion down my neck. They whacked me a time or two. They took over and I would kiss their asses for it if I knew how to physically crawl into their world.

So, the beginning now needs a little work and since my critique group is raring to go, I’m cramming to get this in shape fast for them.

Yeah, it took 2nd in a contest recently. This new version could have taken first.Positive tude, eh?

So, just a few notes:

1. Make sure to visit Rachel Vincent‘s blog often! Her agent will be hanging out all week. There’s a fantastic post on how Rachel came about getting her agent and readers can post or email questions. See my last post for details, but it does go on a few more days.

2. Run to Romance Novel Reviews – Smart Bitches: Come for the Dominican Bitches, Stay fo and at least read the blurb for this book. You have to pick “more” at the bottom, but I busted a gut laughing. They’ve challenged their readers to create cover art for this book, so if you have any talent in that direction, I dare you to blow their minds. Clever bitches.

3. Last night after karate lessons, I took my kids with me to pick up groceries. I turn to find my 15 year-old daughter has my 9 year-old son in a chokehold. She says he walked into it. Yeah. So, since he’s laughing, I turn to get something and hear her tell him she loves him. Aw. His reaction? “The love! It burns! It burns!” — I really, really like my kids.

4. I’m super flattered and okay, tickled, when someone points out my designs from The Write Snark : CafePress.com on their blogs. I don’t mind at all. But, I work hard on the designs, the layout, the marketing– you name it, but it’s work– so I get a little wary of people who post the designs without links. I’m so happy you like them, but please make sure to link. I’ve added a friendly reminder to the newly redesigned Snark. New, better color scheme there!

5. I also added a few more designs… was feeling naughty this week.

(I sacrificed my internal editor in a ceremonial fire.)

There are a few more in the Dark Snark section.

And since I’m concentrating and don’t need to be playing rock star– I get loud– I’m listening to absolutely sensational instrumental rock artists like Mogwai:

Their Website if you want more… Mogwai – Home

Hungry Ghosts: (I love this CD! Can’t decide, so I picked two! Has a bit of a gypsy flavor.)

Both of these bands offer lovely, brooding ambiance…

Am I supposed to link on the actual photo? Or is linking in the post okay? I’ve never linked a photo before.

  2. July 12, 2006

    And congrats on revision bliss!

  3. July 12, 2006

Oh, hon, you had a link! I mean any sort of link.

I’m pretty easy going, but I’ve seen a couple of blogs the last few days using the designs without giving credit or linking to the store. Kind of bothers me. I’m going to watch and see if it goes on then ask them nicely to please link. Like I said, I’m flattered they like the designs, I just worry about them being stolen– some people don’t care about copyright.

I’m careful about stuff I post here. I use “free to blog” sites or I make sure to give credit and a link to any artist’s work I promote.

We artists have to stick together, ya know?

  4. July 12, 2006

And I’m not implying these bloggers are trying to steal.. but someone might see the design and not knowing where it’s from, decide to use it — that sort of thing.

Rinda, you are a riot. Your positive energy just eminates from your blog. I’m looking into the music you suggest, and smiling at your kids. I have a 15 year old (son) too, so I’m thinking we need some patience along with the laughter.

The Mogwai song is from Happy Songs For Happy People and some of it is very emotional and mellow. I’m a big fan of Mogwai for background music when writing.

Hungry Ghosts isn’t really rock, though they’re listed as progressive rock in most places. Talk about passion. I wish I could find a whole version of that first offering.

Hope you like. I’ll suggest all kinds of music here– from classical to goth. You never know what mood I’ll be in and I just appreciate music.

My kids are great. My son and I made up horrible songs at dinner and even ran off my husband tonight. My daughter was laughing too hard to join in. Of course, she was watching her head, too. She made a face at me last night, not expecting the reaction she received. I threw a tortilla at her head.

    It’s still funny today.

  7. July 12, 2006

As usual, I love the shirts.

    And thanks for the link.

And I’m glad you’re all fired up. So am I! I raved about that scene you shared with us to #1 over dinner tonight. I think he wants to meet you. 😉

  8. July 13, 2006

I love that scene. That one made me go back and rethink chapter two. I want the whole book to have the flavor of that scene.

    Okay done.

I also added the shirts Kiss My Asterisk and I gave my infernal editor the day off.

I have a folder full of sayings — just have to make designs for them.

I have to take a break and get to my critique partner’s work today. No Karate, No kid activities- yay! (We’ll see how long that lasts, eh?)

  9. July 13, 2006

You know, I love both of these new designs. Can’t decide. Will the editor one be available on the white/pink shirts?
