Big Books, Intricate Puzzles

The query is done and the synopsis is written and off to my CP for a last minute scan.  And wouldn’t you know it, but this uh, tweaker, found a couple of small inconsistencies while writing the synopsis.  Small things that any savvy reader would have picked up in a second. There is so much room for mistake in a book over 100,000 words.  Each scene is a part of a huge, intricate puzzle.

The manuscripts I finished in the past were never over 75,000.  Course, those had problems anyway or they would be making the rounds.  Considering rewriting a couple of them to send out again since readers seem to prefer the stronger heroines now. 😉

But, I’ve already repaired those areas of the current manuscript.  I’m sure there are probably other small things I missed, but I feel pretty damned good about the thing as a whole right now. There’s a part of me going, “It’s a big book, yes, but you could have gone into a little more depth in a couple of places…”  There’s another going, “But it could still be better…”

But the new, “I wanna do this for a living” part is saying quit picking and let it go.  It’s good.  You like the story so lets see if anyone else does.  It’s also the start of a series and I want to see my heroine grow over the next books.

Oh!  I did work a little today on the next book.  I spent an extraordinary amount of time in the dentist’s waiting room today and got most of an outline sketched.  Came up with a pretty kick-ass title, too.  I’m ready to jump in and do a more intense outline, to pull out the plot board and colored post-its (picture of last one here), and start book two.

But, I promised my kids a week off.  We’re gonna play a little.

And well, I owe a reader here a story about psychic cat scratch fever and government mandated vaccines… to be posted on this blog.  She’s been so patient with me.  🙂

Hummm, perfectionist control freak with an inability to release a completed project and move on.

    Gee, that sounds familiar.

Here is a big pat on your back for finishing. I’m very proud of you. 🙂

Me? I might have to eat a can of dog food. Do you remember that crazy promise I made? 21 days left… Makes me want to throw up a little.
