My Saber.
This was how I felt this morning. But I got up, made coffee and checked on the kids to see if they were up and around for school. After holiday slumpiness must give way to regular routine. Only I’m adding to mine.
No, it’s not resolution thing– we all know what kind of silly pressure that creates.
It’s my after holiday slam! I simply couldn’t work. Too many people, too many parties and waaaayyyyy too much clean-up.
But, I spent yesterday catching everything up so I can hit the manuscript today. I’ll be posting updates on my progress because I have a goal of 2500 words a day. (I should see if I can finally work one of those progress meters… can’t seem to do word instead of page count on them…)
If I can at least close the deal on that number, the manuscript will be finished by the end of the month. Usually, when I’m in the zone, I do a higher day count, but I’m trying to be realistic. <g>
In addition, I plan to critique on my laptop in the evenings after the kiddies are in bed. Rachel, one of my critique partners, has submitted like a million chapters and damn — I want to dive in and see what’s happening in that cool world she’s created. (If you haven’t, click on her name and check out the incredible cover on her debut coming out this year. It freaking rocks.) She’s my inspiration right now. Big time. The woman has the dedication of the energizer bunny and it’s rubbing off on me.
And… on the nights I don’t have critique work, I’m working on my poorly neglected short fiction. Seriously. I don’t have a short story submitted and haven’t in about four months. This is so not like me and it freaks me out a bit.
I also plan to jazz up the writing on this poor blog. I lost readers during my little slump and I deserved it. I did! What we need is more attitude–like in the beginning. More humor, too. I swear, life happenings in the past year were just a bit too much and my humor took a hike. I’ve been feeling it bubbling just under the surface, so be on the lookout.
Also plan to share some more writing advice and peeks into the fiction. Ooh, haven’t shared a peek in a while. You need them, right? And we need another topic contest. I loved writing off your suggestions–had a blast doing that.
So, I’m tackling 2007 head on. Seven is my lucky number after all.
