Had to happen after three intense days with major word counts.
Yep. I crashed.
Woke up yesterday feeling ill and while, thank goodness, the illness didn’t linger, the off feeling did. Every word was a struggle and I ended up writing over 1k then cutting most of it. Scene was so boring, I fell asleep in my chair. Twice. Yes, I know I say write through it, whatever it is, but sometimes, you really do need to take a break. Brain had been on overload for days without breathing space. Years of experience have taught me the importance of refueling creativity, yet, I was suffering from an acute case of stubborn ass. I tried to force words, kept my butt in the chair and at some point, complete frustration took took the reins.
I stopped to cook dinner and THAT’S NOT A GOOD IDEA. Seriously, people, when you’re that worked up and grouchy, don’t work in a kitchen. I accidentally started a fire in my dutch oven pan. Picture me throwing on the lid and grabbing it with pot holders, leaping over one of the cats as I dashed out the back door…
So, I took a few hours off, curled up with some lovely Tension Tamer tea and watched episodes of Angel with the hubby and daughter. I planned to write more last night but instead just stayed with my family. It seems the break was what I needed because I dreamed the answer to the difficult scene and I’m blazing to jump in this morning. So, yesterday’s dismal total is:
Words Yesterday 434 after writing 1k more and then dumping it.
I’m pretty sure my critique partner, Rachel Vincent, had a better day. Poor thing called me in the afternoon. She made me smile though because right away, she agreed the book DID NOT need that scene and because she was away from the mess I’d created and could see things clearly, she mentioned a quick, better idea. Gotta send that woman some chocolate… Click on the button to check her progress. 😉
