Thought I’d cheer myself up and visit a book sale tent. This one, in fact. Didn’t realize my daughter had taken a photograph.
But I stopped on the way back from the doc’s office. I was browsing, my arm going slowly numb from the addition of books and asked if the man at the register would mind if I just stacked the books to the side.
“You schoolteachers,” he said, shaking his head.
“Why do you think I’m a schoolteacher?” I ask, eyes narrowed and suspicious. Damn, I knew these new glasses were too Lisa Loeb.
“Well, you’re buying all these weird subjects. You’re not a schoolteacher?”
I shake my head no. “I like to read.”
“Oh, you’re a genius, then.”
I didn’t know what to say to that. He called me a genius several more times. Wouldn’t categorize myself as a genius for liking to read across the board, but I was oddly flattered. He then picked up one of the books I bought and said it had only been purchased by women. He wondered if I found it as odd as he did.
So, here are my great finds and prices. All hardbacks in excellent condition. Can you spot the book he picked out?
