I found it highly amusing that people had devoted an entire website to the fear of clowns, but then I remembered that scene in Poltergeist. Even though I was the oldest sister (eleven or twelve at the time), I’m pretty sure I made one of the younger ones sleep in my room that night.
We tease people about being afraid of clowns, but according to this article in Psychology Today , it’s natural. (BTW, the current issue isn’t on the website yet.) To children, clowns look like monsters and since adults read facial expressions to understand a person, these made up faces make them suspicious.
I can think of a couple of scary clown movies or books. Stephen King’s It always comes to mind first. Then there was that incredibly awful Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
