Enjoyed meeting with writer friends over the weekend. Ended up skipping margaritas entirely for tall glasses of flavored iced tea. It’s hot here.
Children start school this week, so we still have a lot of things to accomplish before then. Deeper writing posts should start back up soon.
I did not end up hitting all my goals over the weekend. Still have more critiquing to do and though the synopsis wasn’t completed enough to submit, a good portion of it was sorted out and that’s what I really needed. This new story is most definitely my heroine’s even though it was originally going to be from the hero’s point of view. I came up with an excellent magical prophecy to work around.
Ever get ideas that give you goose bumps? Love those.
But I didn’t make my goals because of pain. Had to give my body a break from the computer mouse. My pay job is hours of clicking on a mouse and my right side is starting to complain a lot. Since my keyboard and mouse are on a pull out tray, my arm stays suspended, my wrist draped over a tall, wooden lip on the tray. (My sister-in-law is a specialist on workstations and would kill me if she saw how I’ve been working.) My shoulder, neck and wrist have started aching all the time. So, I gave them the weekend off and worked longhand on my story.
I don’t mind longhand for the brainstorm work, but I simply can’t do it for the actual writing anymore. My brain moves too fast for a pen. I type nearly 100 words a minute. I finally got frustrated writing longhand and pulled out my laptop last night. My shoulder doesn’t complain nearly as much when I give it a mouse break. But there is no word count to share since all the typing was necessary brainstorm work–lots and lots of words, but no cohesive pattern. This is a good thing, really taps into the creative process.
Ever think about how the human body has evolved to fit our environment? Now, with so many of us working on computer mice, I wonder if our hands will start to claw up… ooh, horror story idea…
