Okay, everyone send my Fast Draft buddy, Karen Mahoney, some good wishes. Migraines are the worst. Hopefully, she’s not going to be on line to see them, though… or this post… right, Karen??
My critique partner, Rachel Vincent, got a sneak peak at her new cover already. She’s teasing her readers on her blog, but she did call me all kinds of excited yesterday, so I bet it’s going to be great! (She’s so sweet–she said it was my turn to get a great cover. I agree!)
For those of you trying your hand at a September fast draft along with us (Terri and Danne, I believe so far), check into my Livejournal site. It’s possible there could be a prize offering from a fellow Miriam Kriss client. But whether there is or not, everyone should be checking Chandra’s site. It’s a must visit for positive thinking and current good news! Scroll down to celebrations and libations to see the recent happenings. 😉
As for why I’m posting so early? I sat down last night to just write down a piece of dialogue that came to me during dinner. I didn’t stop until I’d gone past 1500 words. Then, I got up this morning, made my son’s lunch, grabbed a cup of coffee and came into my office to do a little magical research… and ended up writing another 2000 words. Oh, and this scene is great! Much better than the struggling mess of the first part of the book. Sometimes, we writers need to remember that we’re getting to know our characters as the story unfolds. We can always go back and fix those beginning messes.
It’s hard to remember that during the struggling period though, isn’t it? 😉
But this kind of speed is what inevitably happens to me during a fast draft. The story sucks me in. I love this part of the writing so much, when discoveries about your characters and story are firing off like rockets in your mind. There will still be bumps and I always keep that in mind. But I’ve done this enough to know that enjoying the successful parts is must!
So, I’m still going to write today, but since my last post, I did another 3500 words and wanted to get that posted. 😉 I need to go work out for a little while first. Been sitting so long, my legs are numb. (Tip: The treadmill is an excellent spot for brainstorming.)
