There’s something magical to the process of just sitting down and letting your imagination go. Yes, you will end up with a pretty rough first draft, but the magic is in the beauty that sneaks through while you’ve got that internal editor turned off. I’m nearly halfway into the book and I can already tell I’ll have to add a scene or two into past chapters because my characters are getting to that point of understanding and on my part, love. Yes, I cared for them in the beginning–I made them up so I should. But it isn’t until you play them against the backdrop of their story that all these little secretive things about them start bubbling to the surface. And you start to understand why they do the things they do, even when sometimes they still surprise you. Makes the best kind of relationship.
I had to shut down early today because I’m making a Thanksgiving feast. Yeah, you read that right. And yeah, I’m aware it’s September.
It’s a ‘thank you’ dinner for a business colleague and my husband thinks I make the best turkey in the world, so this was the request. So, I’ve been basting butter and Merlot on a cheese-cloth wrapped turkey most of the day. (I love to cook-this isn’t a hardship.) Also made wheat berry bread and “should be illegal” mashed potatoes. I cheated on the stuffing, but hopefully, made up for it with the brownies. LOL! I’m gaining weight just from the scent permeating this house.
Fast Draft Update: 2114 Words today. Short of my usual 3000 word a day goal, but I’d shortened it to 2000 today to compensate for the feast. 😉 Who knows, I may pay a little night visit to my characters later. Especially if I have another glass of this wonderful Merlot I’m supposed to be basting with…
