Storm Force by Meredith Fletcher
What It’s About:
Wilderness guide Kate Garrett is having the bad day of the century. The worst storm in Florida’s history is about to hit land, and she’s been taken hostage by a gang of escaped convicts. Worse, her children are stranded on low ground and her ex-husband can’t be reached.
Now Kate must race against time to guide the prisoners through the swamp and save her children from the tidal wave. She can’t afford to be distracted by Shane Warren, the powerful convict who claims to be helping her, even as he keeps her from escaping. But Kate does have one advantage: there’s no deadlier force in nature than a mother fighting for her young….

I was thrilled to receive a copy of this book from Meredith Fletcher. Thrilled! When I opened the package, my very fist impression was awe over that cover. The strong woman in front, the violent storm in blues as a backdrop. Could it be any more intriguing?
Second impression? The whole time I was reading this book, I kept thinking “movie.” Talk about a kick-ass adventure flick. I could easily see this played out on screen with someone like Jessica Biel in the lead as Kate Garrett.
Kate has had a rough hit with losing custody of her kids– I felt emotionally attached to her instantly. She is also tough, decisive and can take care of herself. She showed wonderful compassion as well as a steely determination to get away from the convicts and get to her kids in time. Shane Warren was another great character who kept me guessing when it came to how far he would go to achieve his goals.
And this was one of those reads where the setting was like a secondary character. The ongoing battle against the violent storm played a continuous and intriguing role in the story and oh, I just have to say “Whoa” on that alligator scene. That was freaking cool.
So, someone needs to see about getting this made into a movie. I need to think on who could play Shane…
