Enjoyed my week off. I only picked up my WIP a couple of times. Worked on the prologue and didn’t like it after two rewrites, so I set it aside.
Over the week, I went to a wedding, celebrated a birthday, hung out with family, read books and watched a few movies. I went on a simple, feel-good movie craze and watched some I really enjoyed.
Kinky Boots was just plain fun. I genuinely enjoyed it. Yes, there were a few areas I thought could have been explored a bit more, but as I said, I was in the mood for feel-good and this one delivered. I loved Lola. You will, too. 🙂
Another I really enjoyed was a romance called Something New that explored the difficulties of falling in love with someone of another race. If you read online reviews, most think it’s an overdone subject and that this one barely scraped the surface, that it went overboard on the race issue, that it had clunky dialogue… blah, blah, blah. Guess I was in the right mood, because I liked it. Thought it was romantic and sexy–I liked the music, the lead actress, Sanaa Lathan, and I will be looking into other work from Simon Baker because man, he’s nice. I, uh, ended up watching it more than once. <g>
So, now play time is over and intense rewriting begins. Rubbing my hands here cuz I’m looking forward to it! I’ve organized all my research notes into a big trapper keeper and can flip to the subjects needed. I plan to spread my favorite reference books with these notes out on the kitchen table in the morning (Because it’s still Sunday night and this post will show a Monday date–which is weird.) and dig right in. I want this book ready to submit in less than two months.
I’ll also soon be posting a few more detailed writing posts and maybe some on those favorite reference books. And… I have a short, creepy story that is finally starting to gel in my head. This has been a tough one–it refused to take any sort of pleasing shape and has been discarded over and over. I’m hoping it will be cool enough to interest the folks at Apex Digest. So yeah, it’s a dark one.
Oh and if you have time, swing by my cp’s blog and congratulate Rachel for finishing her monster first draft which came to a close at more than 150 thousand words!
